Old Dominican passport expires March 30, NYC Consul warns
Dominican General Consul Rafael Evans advised his compatriots that the March 30 deadline to change to the biometric passport won’t be extended, and should note that in their travel plans.
The diplomat, interviewed Tuesday night on Coral 94.9 FM Radio, clarified that it wasn’t the Dominican Government decision, rather the result of an agreement between 27 countries, in the wake of the September 11 attacks.
He said in addition to being part of a multilateral strategy against terrorism, the black passport features more than 100 security codes to thwart forgers, the popular “machetes” with supplanted photos, and other adulterations of the previous one, committed mostly by human traffickers.
