He had a 1.20 ERA with a 13:4 K:BB ratio in 15 innings in three starts in postseason play. Liriano may have been the biggest disappointment in fantasy baseball last season as he struggled with a 5.80 ERA. He’ll battle Brian Duensing and Glen Perkins for the fifth starter job this spring.

Pedro Martinez opens baseball prospect project in DR
Pedro Martínez on Saturday inaugurated a joint project with the office of Major League Baseball in the Dominican Republic to educate young prospects in the country.
Martinez said he wants to help young players who are struggling to reach the greatest baseball know their rights and duties. “I want to give something back to the community and that something is one thing I always have time to give, that is education,” he told the press.
Dominican Republic is the largest producer of foreign players in the majors, but also has the highest number of positive drug tests in the lower circuits. Martinez, who pitched last season with the Phillies, believes that more needs to be done to combat the use of banned substances.

Interior and Police restricts booze schedule in colmadones
The Interior and Police Ministry announced it’ll curtail the hours during which colmadones (bodegas) may sell alcohol to 11 p.m. weekdays and 12 midnight weekends. It said it reduced them 1 and 2 hours because those businesses can currently sell alcohol until 12 midnight weekdays and until 2 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
Democratic Security Plan (PSD) coordinator Yadira Peña said not yet a date application for this measure has be determined, but has assumed that it because the colmadones are where the highest number of crimes occur, according to a 2009 Interior and Police study.
She said crimes in those businesses occur mostly from 6 p.m. to 5 in the morning on weekdays.
